Up & Over (CL III)
Trip Description
One of the best packraft day trips anywhere. A 6.5 mile hike (+3,200’/-2,750′) and 10.5 miles of CL III creeking make it a full day in the park. The hike over National Pass delivers giant views in two directions, before you rumble down the rock glacier to Put-In Beach. Gear up and get ready for the best stretch of whitewater in the area. The upper 5 miles require CL III read and run packrafting skills. There are multiple canyons, a mandatory portage and too many rapids to count. The lower 5 miles provides more opportunity to catch eddy’s and play as the creek opens up and brings you back to town.
Overnite Option: Camp at National Pass or creekside to make this a 1 night/ 2 day packraft adventure. Break up the big day, spend more time in special spots, or do a couple laps on the best rapids.
Duration: 1-2 days
Difficulty: A very challenging day of hiking and boating for an intermediate to advanced packrafter.
Highlights:
- Ridgetop views
- Cover lots of ground
- Great CL III creeking!
- Big day with lots of variety
- Very rewarding
