Half-Day Packrafting

Trip Description

A great way to participate in Alaska’s fastest growing sport and explore one of McCarthy’s seldom visited, and most scenic areas – the Kennicott Glacier Lake.

No experience is necessary for the Half-Day Packrafting Trip.

The trip starts with a short hike to the glacial lake with your packraft packed away in your 15 – 20 lb. backpack.  Once at the lake’s edge your KWG guide shows you how to inflate your packraft and instructs you on the basics of paddling and boating safety. The lake forms the terminus of the Kennicott Glacier and offers incredible opportunities to learn paddling techniques while taking in the blue walls and icebergs of this dynamic environment.

For the more adventurous, a short run of CL II+ rapids leads from the upper to lower lake, these rapids are not mandatory and are easily walked around.  At most water levels these rapids are really fun and worth giving a try.  Take extra laps on the rapids, or take advantage of incredible photo opportunities. Finish the day with a lazy river float & paddle back along the glaciers edge.
