Donoho Lakes Hike
This trip covers a lot of ground and brings you through a variety of different ecosystems. The day is long and the payoff is indescribable! After arriving to the Root Glacier, we put our crampons on and begin our travel across the width of the Root Glacier, navigating glacial streams, peering into blue pools or moulins, and checking out some canyon like features. Once across the glacier, we scramble up the rocky lateral moraine, putting our crampons back in our backpacks, and hiking two miles through the vibrant forest before reaching one of the Donoho Lakes where the views are beyond words.
It’s a great way to experience the wonders of the glacier as well as spending time in a forest that was once covered in ice. Even if we don’t reach the lake, the variety of terrain still offers an amazing perspective of the area.
This hike can last up to 10+ hours, and is only for those who are used to covering many miles over difficult terrain. If this sounds like you, then experience the amazing power of Donoho Lakes!
8 – 10+ hours
