As with our 1/2 day packafting adventure, this is a lake based paddle day. Depending on water levels, there may be some moving current and small wave trains to paddle through if you are feeling up for it. However, this is extremely water level dependent, and whitewater is not guaranteed. However, the combination of an amazing hike and long float through the dynamic glacial landscape make for an incredible way to spend the day.
For those who want to get the most out of their packrafting day, this no-experience necessary trip is your chance tap into the essence of packrafting by combining a great hike with a wonderful day of paddling.
We begin by outfitting you with everything you need to enjoy your day and packing all of your paddling gear in your 15 – 20 lb. backpack. We then strike off down the trail and enjoy a 2+ hour hike along the dynamic edge of the glacier lake.
Once at the terminus of where the ice becomes water, we inflate our boats, and your guide will instruct you on some paddling techniques as well as general water sport safety. From here, we paddle near surreal blue glacier features, giant walls of ice, and alongside huge teetering glacial boulders while touring the upper lake.
While most of the day involves paddling in flat water along side these impressive glacier features, depending on the water levels, you may have the opportunity to experience some skill building through moving current and light rapids. The glacier changes so frequently that we cannot promise any particular features, but often times there is at least some current to play around in. The day finishes with a relaxing float & paddle through more icebergs and back down the glacial lake.
This trip is a great introduction for those interested in an intro to packrafting or just looking for an amazing full-day Alaskan adventure!
