COVID Policy and FAQs

KWG is committed to the health and safety of our community and guests.  All of our guides and staff are vaccinated.  KWG will follow the recommendations of the CDC as it pertains to COVID precautions, as such, our policies may change throughout the season.  We do not require vaccinations, however all of our guides and staff are vaccinated. We don’t require masks while outside on our trips, but do encourage all of our guests to wear masks while riding in our vans, flying in bush planes, or entering our office. For multi-day and backcountry guests we will ask your vaccination status and may alter procedures in the field.

We appreciate your kindness and understanding as we do our best to navigate these complicated times while still providing the adventures of a lifetime.

Does KWG require guests to be vaccinated or show proof of a negative test?

No we don’t. If joining us for a multi-day or backcountry adventure we will ask you your vaccination status and may alter field operating procedures based on trip logistics and status.

Do I need to wear a mask?

At this point, we encourage everyone to wear a mask while riding in our vans, entering our office, or flying in bush planes with your guide.  This may change throughout our season as per CDC and State of Alaska recommendations and/or as COVID case numbers in Alaska dictate.

What happens if I test positive right before my trip?

We do not offer refunds for last minute Covid cancellations. You will be able to apply your trip cost to a future trip with us for up to 2 calendar seasons.

We recommend our multi-day guests practice safe COVID practices leading up to your trip and consider purchasing traveler’s insurance that covers COVID related issues.

What happens if I am exposed to someone with Covid right before my trip?

If you come in close contact with someone with Covid in the days leading up to your trip we request you to notify us ASAP. We will follow CDC guidelines to determine quarantine/isolation protocols and adjust the trip as needed.

What if my guide starts showing Covid symptoms before our trip?

We have rapid tests on hand and any staff showing symptoms will be tested for Covid.

What is my guide test positive for before our trip?

If your guide has a test that comes back positive, they will not be eligible to guide the trip. We will change our schedule to assign a different guide if possible. If we are unable to find a replacement guide on our staff, we will work with other guide services in the area to see if they can step in and help.  If there are no other options available, we will support you and your travel plans as best as we can to rearrange your trip and provide a full refund for the cost of your adventures with us.

What if someone becomes sick while we are in the backcountry?

A.  All of our trips will have rapid covid tests on site to determine if the symptoms are COVID related.

B.  If a test comes back positive, but symptoms are minor, we can continue the trip, masking and maintaining social distance from the rest of the group.

C.  If symptoms persist or worsen, we will arrange for an early pickup.

What if I test positive after I have been on a trip with you?

We encourage you to call, or email us with as much information as possible about your symptoms and contact with our staff, so we can better protect our guides, other guests and community.
