Backcountry Packrafting Trips
Backcountry Packrafting in the Wrangells is what packrafts were designed for.
Until packrafts changed the game, water was once a barrier to travel in the Alaskan backcountry. These little boats have opened up access to hundreds of miles of wilderness whitewater in the Wrangells and streamlined logistics for multisport backcountry adventures of all kinds.
Unlock packrafts’ full potential in the landscape that inspired their creation.
Fly in for a paddling trip to an iceberg lake, or hike in for a packraft traverse, either way you can feel it, this place is built for packrafting.
Backcountry Packrafting Trips can be supported by flights to remote backcountry locations on both ends of the trip, can start or end in Kennicott-McCarthy, or involve other shuttle logistics.
For Experience Required Trips you need to be proficient in navigating hazards and catching eddies at the river difficulty listed in your own packraft. You could be experienced in a packraft, an inflatable kayak or a hard shell. Contact us to start the assessment process by filling out our Packraft Experience Questionnaire.
Trip durations represent the ranges that a trip can be done in. The river portions of some of these trips can be done as a single day trip. Longer trips allow for day hikes and adventuring at the beginning of the trip and/or along the way. We recommend giving yourself ample time to take full advantage of being out there.
