Backpacking Trip Description: Forever Alpine
After years of guiding backpacking trips in the Wrangell St. Elias National Park, we have decided this is a must do trip if your main objective is hiking in the Alaskan alpine. Begin this traverse at Allies Valley; a larger than life valley in the Chugach, accessed only by Super Cub, which makes for a seldom visited area.
This route takes us out of Allie’s Valley through a mountain pass and hikes along the warn paths of generations of wild grizzly bears to get to the upper Chakina Creek drainage, an area dotted with glacial lakes and world class hiking and camping. Travel up the Chakina drainage to the second pass of the trip, which leads you to the Monahan Creek drainage.
From here you connect with the most alpine portion of the seven passes route, taking you up the final pass of the route to Golden Pond. Finish up Golcanda Creek to the airstrip at the side of the Bremner Mine.
Potential days of base camp hiking are available at Bremner as well. All other traverses require at least some bushwhacking and glacial travel, while this trip exists within the magical elevation with very minimal brush and no glacial moraine.
If you are interested in an alpine backpacking trip, but still want to experience a glacier, schedule a full day glacier hike in conjunction with your backpacking trip, and receive 30% off any of our glacier hikes.
