2008 Alaska Backpacking

Stats: Total Distance: 8 - 13 miles
This trip lands at the Fosse airstrip and highlights the upper Blackburn Basin, but cuts out the hike back down the Kennicott Glacier to Kennicott.

Get ready for big views of Mt. Blackburn, Ahtna and Rime Peaks, Goat Hair Mountain, and other ice-covered mountains and ridges. This is as big as it gets. We have the option of finding our way onto the Kennicott Glacier, and conditions permitting we can establish camp our second night on the Kennicott Glacier at the base of Packsaddle Island. For those looking for an easier way to experience this area we tend to remain camped on land alongside the Kennicott Glacier and explore into the mountains above us for bigger and different views. This also includes a day hike that allows us to look into Hidden Valley and down at spectacular, iceberg-filled Hidden Lake.
