Blackburn Basin Backpacking
Partner Needed

3-5 days, ideally July 27 - August 8th

Leigh is going on a glacier-alpine trip out of Kennicott. He is 35, fit, and looking for a moderate/challenging trip, with special emphasis on getting into the alpine and also learning about glacial travel skills. Trip will include at least 6 to 8 hours of hiking each day. Longer trip will open up more
possibilities for day pack hikes into the alpine.

Highlights include travelling on Root & Kennicott Glaciers; alpine tundra and ridges with big views of area glaciers and icefalls, as well as chance for park-wide vistas.

Price to join trip:: $660 (3 day) $1,100 (5 day)

Donoho Peak Circumnavigation

Donoho Peak is a 6,696 foot tall towering limestone mountain surrounded on three sides by glaciers. This trip leaves from Kennicott and takes 4 days to circumnavigate this Donoho Peak via glacier ice, alpine ridges and the isolated wilderness of the Donoho Basin. We will use crampons to hike up the Root Glacier towards the Stairway Icefall to the northern side of Donoho Peak. From here traveling on alpine ridges gains the pass, good tundra camping and the big views of the huge glaciated mountains beyond. After descent from the alpine the route continues through the pristine ecosystem surrounding the lakes in the Donoho Basin, and ends with one last glacier crossing to get home to Kennicott. The trip is approximately 15 miles and is moderate to challenging.

Donoho Peak Circumnavigation, Late June - Early September, 4
days
Price: 2 people $725 per / 3 people $650 / 4 people $550

Wrangell Plateau

4 days, between July 19th and 31st

Mt. Wrangell is a massive shield volcano that is estimated to be 7 times the cubic volume of Mt. Ranier. On rare occasions this huge massif will belch out steam from its summit. This is a point-to-point hike from one alpine plateau shouldering ice-buried Mt. Wrangell to another. The views are enormous. This is an up-close look at massive, flowing glaciers. The terrain is mostly wide-open alpine tundra with the opportunity to possibly spot wolves, bear, dall sheep, and caribou. We'll gain a few thousand feet, and lose around 2,000, as we scramble down across a glacier. We'll be using crampons while travelling on the ice. The route is 18 miles, with opportunities for additional mileage depending upon group capabilities and interests.

Wrangell Plateau trek, 4
days
Price: 2 people $1150 per / 3 people $975 per / 4 people $875
