Snow climbing techniques
Looking down on the expansive Nabesna Glacier from a high camp dug into the mountain slope
This course focuses on mountaineering above the "firn line," that point on a glacier where snow stays year-round and contributes to the formation of glacier ice. We may encounter some exposed glacier ice on this trip, but the techniques taught are geared towards mountaineering in the snow. Snow camping, ski mountaineering, snow anchors, rope teams, negotiating hidden crevasses, crevasse rescue, and emergency snow shelters are just a few of the topics that are covered in this extremely informative cirriculum.

Nearly all of the world's greatest mountains lie above the firn line of their glaciers, and to travel there without these skills is an exercise in folly. Let us show you how to safely watch after yourself - and your partners - in these truly amazing places!
