The
Root and Kennicott Glaciers offer ice-climbing opportunities for
those of all levels.
We provide you a locally experienced guide and immerse you in a
beautiful and vast natural setting. Our ice climbing program is
designed for the enthusiastic beginner, the experienced climber,
and everyone in-between. There are mellow walls to practice skills
on, and fantastic holes in the ice called moulins to lower into
and climb out of.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
*Note:
There are many areas throughout the park where great ice climbing
exists; inquire about taking climbing gear into the backcountry.

Your guides show and explain to you the basic safety measures involved
with climbing ice; checking your harness, using your crampons and
ice axes properly, and other important aspects of safe climbing.
Confidence in them, and trust in your gear makes your day more enjoyable.
Spending a full day on the glacier gives clients an opportunity
to become familiar with their equipment, learn the fundamentals
of climbing ice, build confidence, and kick some butt. Hanging out
on a wall of vertical ice, or being lowered into the guts of the
glacier, can be simultaneously empowering, exhilarating, terrifying,
and fun.

The
Walkabout Ice Climbing Tour
Maximum Client/Guide Ratio of 3 to 1 - $110
This is a trip designed for smaller groups. The instructional aspect
of the trip still focuses on safety and technique, but there is
more emphasis on getting to less-frequented areas of the Root Glacier.
There may be a bit less climbing than the typical full day, but
you won't be shorted in the overall adventure category!

areas on the glacier. Your guide will review safe and efficient climbing
techniques with you, take you to special climbing areas, and spend

Trip
Duration: 2 days & 1 night
Dates: mid-July through September
This is a high intensity trip; adrenaline and blue ice
$425 per person (2 people)
$395 per person (3+ people)
Join KWG for an exploration of the Root & Kennicott Glaciers finest
moulins. Spending the night on the ice allows for time to climb many
of our favorite moulins not practical to reach on a day trip. As the
summer progresses the glaciers continue to thaw out, opening up tremendous
holes once hidden by seasonal lakes. Lower into these labyrinths of
ice, see things that no-one has seen before, and test your climbing
technique on the blue ice that never sees the sun.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. |
